Hey guys I have a 2006 VW Golf 1.6 FSi SE auto with 130k mileage. Passed its MOT in august. The car drives fine apart from when reaching speed of 60-80mph there is a strong vibration throughout the steering wheel/accelerator.. it does vanish from time to time.. there is also a cranking/creaking noise. Mechanic noticed wheel play on front left of the car after checking and saying a balance will make no difference.
I went to the Tyre shop today to get all four wheels balanced which I was then stopped by the mechanic as he told me that vibration is through the front mostly. Which is also where I feel it most. Anyways.. wheel balance not done, the mechanic checked the wheels. Rear tyres were changed and I was shown my front left wheel axle which was loose and could move up and down/ side to side. I was thinking maybe the wheel bearings will have to be changed? The rear wheels were not like this.
The car is being taken to a mechanic soon anyways was just wondering if anyone else had any information. Also, I was looking at CV joints and Drive shafts and most were for manual tranmission.. is it different for an auto? Thanks guys.
