Peugeot 207 1.4 petrol - low oil pressure - strickjumpers

Low oil pressure warning on start with an engine STOP warning, much clattering of the top end but it's not my car and went to view it with a view to purchase and fix. the owner who knows nothing about cars said the noise goes away after about 15 minutes running. I don't know why the warning was ignored.

Is it possible to drop the sump with the engine in the car. is there a tensioner on the pump chain, opinions if possible that the low pressure is causing hydraulic valve lifters to take a while to pressurize?

The car is in good condition, cheap with a low mileage of 61k on 2007 plate. 5 months Mot.

can anyone tell me if this would be cost-effective to do the work myself?

thanks, Mike.

It rather sounds like the engine has had it.

If you're buying as a project, then fine, haul the motor out and rebuild it.

If you're actually needing a car for transport, forget it.

Only buy if you have deducted the cost of a new engine from the price. Rattling for 15 misn is really bad news. Oil pressure is not just the oil pump and feed but could be failure of anything that relies on oil pressure - big end bearing, maind bearings etc..... Saying that if these have failed it's usually worse when warm (personal experience)

Myself - i'd run for the hills

No point in rebuilding an engine which has oilways full of swarf from failed bearings unless you strip it down completley and flush out EVERY oilway several times . And have the requisite micrometers to measure wear, the skill to use them and the specifications of all tolerances.

I'd run away - modern car engines are masterpieces of fine tolerances..
