Mercedes E320 - Sat Nav not taking post code - Steveieb

The sat nav will only take the first part of the post code and the numberof the second part of the post code.

After this the screen does not repond to the keypad.

Are you able to advise what could be the problem?

How old is the car ?

I'm aware that a lot of systems from a few years ago were only built to deal with postcodes from the continent, which are usually only 5 characters in length. As such, they just aren't designed to deal with a 7 character UK postcode.

Toyota sat navs of the late noughties are the same and might well be the same now for all i know, 5 digit entry only, so you really needs the street address to finish programming in.

My 2005 Audi is simlar. So I've given up using postcodes - it's easy to dial in a place and street using the MMI - I presume Mercs have something similar

try putting a space between
one of my sat navs did the same,
but it needed a space eg "la1 4fe"

seems the e320 is designed for 5!?!

ps I use a 5" £25 satnav from ebay, which has all the maps of europe too.. igo
it's lasted 4 years , so far...

If it is a 2007 car the best bet is to turn it off and buy a cheap TomTom or just use Google Maps.

Any 10 year old SatNav system is going to be pretty dated and useless in comparison to what is expected now.

If I remember correctly the Mercedes system from that era does not do full post codes so there is nothing wrong with it - just that it does not have that functionality. You'll need to put the street and number in manually rather than use a post code.
