E46 330ci convertible, 2002, manual - BMW E46 sloppy shifter/gearstick, and AC drivebelt - carnut1980

Hi all, my shifter is a little sloppy, mileage is 105k and has had a recent clutch. I pulled the gear gaiter off and had a look, the bushes look ok, is it likely to be a problem i need to address from underneath?

Also the AC drivebelt is missing, so obviously no AC. How would i access the tensioner to fit one?

I have pics, but don't know how to add them!

Also parking sensors are intermittent. All making the 'clicking' sound, but half the time, i just get the long 'beep' when in reverse.

No lights on dash, full history.

Please help!

Sloppy shifter may be worn linkage under the transmission tunnel to the gearbox. Any wear here will be amplified by the time it gets to the shift stick. The a/c drive belt is on its own driven from the cranshaft with a spring loaded self tensioner. It is possible that the belt has broken, the tensioner has seized and not doing its job properly,or something wrong with the a/c pump that has caused the belt to flip.Acces from under front of car.Parking sensor fault is likely to be one or more sensors faulty. One sensor out is enough to stop the whole system working. Also if the car has a sport rear bumper, then the wiring to the sensors runs very close to the exhaust. Perfect, thanks for the info. Is the gearshift linkage a DIY job, with reasonable tools and knowledge?

Not a difficult job,if the car is on a lift/ramp. A lot more awkward if the car is jacked up on the floor.

Ok, but would i need someone to wiggle the shifter while i look underneath, or would the source of any play be obvious?
