Car showroom avoids paying parking charges - deeplydippy

Where I live it is a controlled parking zone by permit only 10am-3pm any vehicle wanting a permit must be registered at an address in the zone, any business wanting to register a vehicle must have said vehicle in company name.

Parking meter charge is 20p 20 minutes pay & display however a car showroom is filling the mixed use bays tickets/permits with cars with no tickets or permits & wave the warden away when he comes to ticket them & they never get tickets.

Is there some loophole they are using to avoid paying & can I use it lmao but it is a bit rich when you pay & they hsve the spaces filled there is plenty around but these are outside shops & disabled people are having to wa;lk further than they would have to.

They are bragging that they don't pay but we would like to know if anyone knows how they do it,it is various traffic wardens & they ticket other cars there if they do not have a ticket/permit.

Maybe they pay a fee or have some sort of arrangement with the authority responsible, a sort of season ticket blanket cover charge, might be sensible all round, showroom stays in business pays good taxes and business rates provides worthwhile employment etc, the alternative might be the showroom going out of business or upping sticks leaving a large gap in authority income and several people jobless.

I cannot think of any obvious loophole though GB's suggestion of a 'season ticket' may hold water. For me, first port of call would be to report issue to the Council running the permit scheme.

Definitely your local Council should be the place to go. Try your local councillor first, he or she should be able to find out through a few telephone calls and get back to you. Cheers Concrete

My friend runs an independent repair/service/MOT garage in a permit area and told me he would be charged £75 per permit to park customers' cars on the road.

If that is the case for every local council then the OP is right to be concerned there is something fishy going on. His local councillor should be able to find out the true situation with a few telephone calls. As you point out, I am sure I have been told by businesses that they pay to have customers access parking at or near their premises. Cheers Concrete
