2008 VW Bettle Cabriolet - Failed Boot lid - Richard wall
Hi

Hoping someone can help my partners boot lid on her VW Beetle is playing up. So it opens via remote then fails to open. Lights flash but no sound, I go through to the boot via the back seat and pull the emergency cord to open the boot manually. I then close the boot and it now works fine via the remote fob. However that only lasts a few times and then back to it not responding to the fob repeat process by manually opening the boot and it works again on the fob.

I've looked online and not seen any thing much regarding this.

Any ideas ?

Do you get the same problem if you try to open the boot from the switch on the drivers door?

You will need to access the wiring that runs into the boot lid. Open the boot and remove the plastic boot lid trim. This will reveal the wiring to the electric release actuator (usually white colour) and the boot lock latch. There are approx 2 or 3 connector plugs on the wiring system.Take them apart ,spray the pins with some contact spray and re-fit and test..

Without any further tests,it is difficult to come to any positive answer. However,a fault in either the release actuator or the boot latch could cause your problem. There is a micro switch in the boot latch,if this is faulty, then it will not allow the relase system to work.
