Nissan Qashqai - How to warn other motorists about their own car? - Metropolis.

Was driving along the other night and saw a nissan in the middle lane of the motorway with a wheel sideways and dragging at the back. My eyes nearly popped out my head till i figured it must be the spare wheel hanging off. It had somehow wedged itself between left side of rear bumper and the road. The driver seemed oblivious. Not wanting to put them in a rage (which might make them accelerate) I tried to get alongside, but then what do you do? I overtook and flashed my hazards infront of them in intervals whilst gradually slowing down but they took no notice. All I could then do was make sure I wasnt behind it when it eventually gives way.

How do you go about warning other motorists in this situation? It's so hard not to look like you're having a go at them.

If they appear totally oblivious to your attempt to catch their attention, then dial the police

You could technically dial 999. It is an emergency that threatens life.

Or dial 101. But (in my experience) that's a perfect way of being put on hold for 20 minutes.

I followed the smell of burning rubber up a motorway, before catching up with a car with an obviously flat tyre. I tried to signal to the female driver, but she looked at me and accelerated away. She went past three junctions and a service area before grinding to a halt in the middle lane! I was able to pass her fairly quickly, but heard a traffic report shortly after advising of a delay.

You can't help some folk.

A few flashes of the headlights and some short blasts of the horn as you go by is what I would do. I've had people do this to me when the lighting board was about to fall off my trailer and it got my attention. Don't try to make eye contact or mouth anything through the side window as that is dangerous for both people.

When the first car comes past doing this, the driver may think the person trying to tell them there is a problem is being aggressive. However when the second, third, fourth car comes past doing something similar, most people will twig that something is wrong and pull over to check.

Qashqai's spare is not under the car, if they have one its in the boot.
