AURIS HYBRID - TOYOTA EXTENDED WARRANTY - KEMYST

OK I need some help here, please. When I bought the Auris I was offered a 2 year extension of 5 year warranty of the car. I told the car salesman that I had had problems with warranties before and that I was not interested. I was then told that this was an extention to the original warranty of the car and it was underwritten by Toyota. I was tempted by this and again made sure that it was `Toyota` warranty. I then paid £500 for the 2 year warranty. Now this warranty is advertised on the Toyota website and the whole thrust of the blurb is that your are buying a Toyota product. I therefore assumed that the 2 year extension is `seemlessly` tacked on to the original 5 year warranty. Hence if any fault occured it would be treated as if the car was under the orginal warranty. Well when I had had the car a few months an intermittent fault occurred with the horn. I took it back and they could not find the fault. The horn worked for a few months and the fault reoccurred. I rang the garage up and arranged for the horn to be repaired when I bought the car in for its MOT and servicing. This time they found a fault in the horn (but it still past the MOT!?)

The situation now is that because I originally reported the fault the fault some months ago it has not `failed` but has malfunctioned due to wear and tear. Thus I have to pay £40 for a new horn. Now my gripe is that the Toyota warranty I bought does not seem to tack onto the orginal warranty but is, in fact, subject to separate conditions. I mean, can I presume that if the horn had failed during the 5 year period of the orginal warranty it would have been replaced by a new horn? If this is the case then this warranty is no better than any other warranty. Have I got the wrong end of the stick. I have now lost all faith in the product and feel like instigating a complaint. Thanks for any help.

I am equally concerned with Toyota response to fob you off to say the horn is a wear and tear item. Your hon is like your speaker....

You need to ask them is the speaker of the Audio system is a wear and tear item.

I had a problem with my Yaris horn a few month ago, it was an intermittent fault. I was about to replace the horn but after a few electrical checks it pointed to a poor rusty electrical connector to the horn.

Your problem maybe related to poor electrical contact like mine, if it's the same your problem may return. I recommend you to check the horn regularly in an open road as it is a safety function of your car.

I expect the problem is with the school leaver behind the service desk who probably thinks they work for a German car dealer :-), ask to speak to the service manager or dealer principal, if still no joy then look up the number of Toyota UK at either Epsom or Ewell (i've been there many times in years gone by but can never remember which town) and give Customer Services a tinkle and ask them what's going on.

Lets be a bit pedantic here.

You need to check exactly what is covered under the T & C's of the Toyota 5 year warranty first. Its possible certain items are excluded after year 3, its not unusual and if this is the case years 6 & 7 will be under the same T & C's.

What year is your car.

Have a look at the following link, especially 'What's Covered' -www.toyota.co.uk/caring-for-your-toyota/warranty/e...n

You will see that electrics are covered, so go back to the dealer with a print off from the site. point out that your horn should be covered under electrics, and if still no joy, contact Toyota GB on 0344 701 6202
