Q5 2013 - Can anyone help? Question on used car buying - Qapoint

Looking at a used q5 and 24.10 is painted on underside of bonnet in white. Very visible-near the front. Should I worry? Looks like a date-possibly auctioned?- but worry it is a part number or something and evidence of undeclared accident and repair. Can't see anything else suggesting this-paint seems to match etc but Has anyone seen this

Can't work out how to post a photo of it which would be helpful-is it possible?

Thanks-appreciate the help

If you are buying from a dealer ask for a written declaration that the vehicle has never been involved in an accident. It seems to me that the bonnet might have the date a part was taken off an accident damaged car.

But, in view of your suspiscions, do what elvis did. and unless the car is perfect get it properly checked by an audi dealer.

Walk away Walk away.

you'll find another.

There are lots out there.

Yes thanks-was wondering whether the date could be date it was taken off someting or put on possibly. Is that a common thing to see? Has anyone seen it before?

Very possible that it's been in a bump and been repaired using used parts. Is it at a main dealer or used only outlet? What mileage is on it? Has it a full Audi history? Can you link the advert on here for us to have a wee look?

Car supermarkets like this are quite good for nearly new or pre reg (mostly mainstream) stock they've bought direct from manufacturers or importers and are offered at discount though they're usually reluctant to do a deal so often main dealers aren't far off pricewise if you fight hard.

However you can pretty much guarantee used stock like this will have come from auction. Audi dealers will pay good money for any good cars at the end of their lease so if it appears at a general sale and it's not killed with miles, a weird spec or an unpopular colour then you can be sure there's something negative about it most likely poor paintwork or a cheaply done repair.

I'm concerned that it's only been serviced twice in almost 55,000 miles. Complex turbocharged cars like this must have fresh oil EVERY year and not more than 12,000 miles not twice in 55k. Poor history may be the reason why dealers didn't want it.

I'd personally look for an approved used Q5 at a main dealer and accept that it'll either be older or dearer. Any poor paintwork will deteriorate rapidly and seriously damage the value of the car so every penny you saved over the dealer price and more will disappear come trade in time.

Just checked Audi's recommended service schedule and on Audi's Flexible Service schedule it should've been service no later than 2yrs and 19,000 miles (unadvisable) so this car has been poorly maintained in my eyes. This is for business users mostly doing high motorway mileages and is aimed at keeping costs down rather than aiding the longterm health of the car.

On their fixed service schedule it should be every year and 9,000 miles which is the sort of history I'd be looking for on a car like this. Oil gets a tough time inside a turbocharged car so it must be maintained without scrimping.

If it's been on a business lease it will have had minimal servicing to comply with warranty terms - not one I'd like to buy.

As SLO76 points out, franchised dealers get first choice of the best examples - so if you buy anywhere else it should be at discount from a franchised dealer's discounted price - I doubt it is!

Yeah thanks guys - helpful to get your thoughts on this. And I take the point they aren't getting the best stock at these places.

Services so far are something like 18k (mid 2014), 36k (oct 2015) and obviously due another one asap!

As far as I can tell the price is on the low end...but maybe not low enough by the sounds of it.

Virtually all Audi finance cars end up at auction and virtually all of the nice cars are bought by Audi main dealers. Same applies to BMW. In some cases they get a "cashback" deal as well on the hammer price.

Obviously there are loads of non-VWFS cars in general (Leaseplan etc.) fleet and finance disposals too.
