Solution to snowy weather
We have problems getting out of our (very hilly) road in snow. We would like to buy a small/medium sized car which is 2 wheel drive and can be switched to four wheel drive when needed, rather than a permanent 4x4.
As my wife has to travel to her mothers once a month on the motorway we would like it to be reasonably quiet on motoways. We want to spend about £10,000.

You might get a used Toyota Urban Cruiser 1.4 D-4D 4WD for £10k. But a better solution is simply get a set of winter tyres fitted to a separate set of rims and put them on your current car from late October to early April.

Chunky and quirky looks. A rare sight on UK roads. 1.4 D-4D AWD surprisingly enjoyable to drive.
