Lotus Carlton - A little evening reading - craig-pd130

This is well worth a read: Russell Bulgin's classic 1991 article from Car Magazine about trying to hit the Lotus Carlton's 176mph maximum speed on the German autobahn.

The Carlton's origin was the Opel Rekord / Opel Omega - the Rekord had also been used as a basis for the Holden Commodore in Australia which used a Chevrolet V8.

As a replacement for the Lotus Carlton, Opel attempted to put the Chevrolet V8 into the Omega-B but couldn't get satisfactory cooling - ironic as the Aussies coped fine in higher temperatures - so we never got the Opel/Vauxhall Omega V8 - that was a pity.

Holden did send the Monaro here as a Vauxhall - effectively the Omega V8 - so it could be done.

I have a confession. I owned a Lotus Carlton for a year.

Chuffin hilarious, and nowhere near as hard to drive as all the journalists reckoned

I swapped it for a TVR Chimaera 450. Which was quite a bit more lairy in the wet.
