Nissan Qashqai - scratched bumper - Luke Tracey

Hi I have a scratch on the bumper of my Nissan Qashqai . Bumper is, of course, plastic. Colour is black and scratch is showing white.

Its a fairly fine straight line. Now, my first reaction is to use a fine tipped black marker to fill it in. But, I was wondering if there is anything else that would be better?

New car? Chipsaway

Old Car? Touch up paint

That looks more dark grey than black and seems to be dented in the second pic?

If you are happy just having it covered a marker or even black shoe polish!

If you want a proper job and it is plastic a bodyshop would sort it.

Chipsaway are OK, but plastic often needs more specialist prep requiring heat so the paint adheres and doesn't peel over time. For this work a heated indoor space is preferable.

I've had similar scratches done at a bodyshop and cost is usually £100-150.

A week before I wanted to start the process of trading in my immaculate Hyundai Santa Fe, I put a 10" scratch round the bumper corner - I got quotes from a local smart repairer working from a unit, £150 and a mobile, £120.

I went with the smart repairer as it would be done indoors so less chance of dust contamination and his use of heaters to finish the job - he did an excellent job, and even touched up some chips at the rear I'd not spotted.

The car went through BCA as class 2, only downrated from class 1 because of a minute dent not visible to normal examination but just visible with an inspection lamp - ironically there was no official record of the engine/transmission rebuild as they were done under warranty!
