I do not know about the system in a Volvo but I work in a dealer and we are always getting problems with phones. The first think to do is check the settings on the phone if it is a Samsung phone make sure that the media data (photos etc) is turned off because the car will not accept this and will not connect. Have you tried connecting another phone if that works than you know that your phone is at fault. What we always do is try connecting a good phone if that works than it isn't the car at fault. I would say about 95% of phones that won't connect is the phone not the car.
