EGR and VW.
I have a 2013 VW Touran 1.6TDI. The EGR valve needs replacing at 22K miles, total cost approx £1400. The cost of the parts has been paid for by VW + 50% of the 7hrs labour. My contribution is to be £483 (including £96 diagnostic - refundable if they carry out the replacement). As this appears to be a known fault (see all the reports on various sites on the internet) should it have been rectified by VW for free. I felt I had to agree to the cost as the car is off the road and does not run correctly.
Have asked the service team about the costs and problem but the man I spoke to knows nothing about the valve, the problems with it, or any comment on the internet as he doesn't read forums. Would have thought Inchcape would be aware and kept staff appraised.
After a lot of pushing, got a 30% reduction of the labour but still unhappy that I have to pay at all. Finally, was informed that a) I should stop using City diesel from Morrisons - very dirty & high bio content (good for planet, not for VW) b) try to incorporate motorway driving to keep DPF and EGR valves clear.
Tempted to have it chipped.
