The oil service / inspection 1 / inspection 2 servicing went by the wayside a few years ago.

If you go here : www.bmw-service.co.uk/ and enter your registration and mileage, it will tell you what needs doing, and an indication of price.

EDIT : do note, while you can legally go to an independent and get servicing carried out and still maintain your warranty, doing so may well cause BMW to look less favourably at any 'goodwill' claim once your warranty expires. For (potentially) a saving of £200, is it worth the risk on it ?

Worth ringing a few main dealers for servicing prices then get your local one to match the lowest price. Up to about 5 years old I always stick to main dealers for the reason RobJP said, but when they inevitably ring up saying your discs/pads need changing for some large sum of money I do it myself or get it done by an indi.

thanks all.

Rang BMW dealer today and got a very pushy person on service who wanted tme to make an appointment asap, anyway i checked service history. its a March 2014 car with its first service Oct 2015 so its next service is a 35k service. Price from local BMW dealer £590 local indie £157 for normal service and extra £48 if brake fluid required now i expect dealer to be more expensive but thats extortionate whats so expensive about its second service ?

When you charge £15+ / litre, filters almost £100, £120 per hour, environmental charge for disposing of the oil, £10 for sundies (grease) it is easy BUT it will not stop there - the phone will ring mid-morning "Service Desk here" the pads @ the front are worn/The disks are warped & thin, the rears are pitted by rust................

A son phoned around for his then newish 5 Series £300 was the cheapest quote from 3/4 sites. Job done & he went to pick up the car the bill was well over £300.............VAT added £60 & they had charged some £80 for oil.

He is a consulting engineer in the oil industry & they get handed say 10 litres of Premium oil @ Xmas. They took the oil off the bill as it was on the car seat when dropped off, but still charged VAT till he pointed out he asked for the Total Price of the service & was told £300 - as a privately owned car he could not claim back VAT - he said he had been misquoted - the Bill was reduced to ensure the bill came to just over £200.

My Indie uses my "free oil" from Aberdeen source, he supplies all the rest & the bill is normally around the £120-£180 mark

Had you done what I recommended, and gone onto BMW's website to get a price from there ?

Your car may even have 'service inclusive', which would mean such things are free (a pre-paid service plan, basically), but you will ONLY know for definite if you go to the website and enter reg no and mileage.

In addition, the servicing prices quoted on the website are often cheaper than what dealers quote as 'standard'. But you can book through the website, and get the price quoted off that.

Finally, you will often find different dealerships, or groups, have different service pricing. Halliwell Jones Chester is more expensive than HJ Llandudno, for example. So phone around, play places off against each other.

Yes i went on the page supplied it comes up as no service package is included but it does not give me the option see a price for a service it invites me to call them to discuss it.
