Vauxhall Astra - Clocking - Le122

I unknowingly purchased a clocked car last year. Only brought to my attention by the police who are currently investigating the dealer for at least 10 other cases. Gave police all my evidence etc but not heard back. Highly doubt i personally will recieve compensation if it goes to court as so many others involved. Car was clocked by 52,000 miles. Is it worth my while getting my own solicitor involved to get compensatiob or would i be fighting a losing battle? Also if i where to buy another car woulld a garage even accept mine as a trade in?

We really need more details about the car and the purchase before advising. However...

"Is it worth my while getting my own solicitor involved to get compensatiob or would i be fighting a losing battle?"

This depends on the genuine mileage; if the car has really done 200k then 52k wouldn't have made that much difference to the price you paid, certainly not enough to warrant paying the sort of fees your solicitor will charge. If the car was old and cheap anyway there's even less chance of being compensated. If the genuine mileage was quite low it's another matter, but you've got to balance what the outcome of legal action might be against the cost of taking action.

"Also if i where to buy another car woulld a garage even accept mine as a trade in? "

Wht not? As long as you declare the correct mileage there would be no problem, though maybe the amount offered wouldn't be so high, as no-one likes the idea of a clocked car.

Thanks for your reply. Its a 2011 astra with quite high mileage anyway, around 80,000 on the clock at time of purchase. So over 140k now when clocked mileage is added. Spent abit of £ on it since finding out it had been clocked. No service history so had to buy a new timing belt etc just to be on the safe side. Few warning lights here and there. Did a value check online and looks like i will get around £1600 for it if i was to trade in. I bought it for £5500 and traded in my old but perfect clio as a part payment. Just trying to decide if i should trade it in and wash my hands of it or keep it and run it into the ground. Dpf light coming on very regularly now so i suspect its on the way out. Hopefully not. Dont want to spend anymore on it as ive probably spent more on it than its worth now :-/
