I am just wondering if any other owners have come across this.

I recently bought a 2014 C4 Picasso with the only issue being raised during the testdrive that the air con was a little poor.

The garage I bought it from have been very good and after it was still not working when I collected it, they asked me to book it into a local garage and they would pay for repairs etc.

I took it to a very knowledgable Auto technicians who informed me my particular model, year and engine type has been fitted with a different type of high pressure system that uses a different gas. They also said they couldn't recommend anybody in my area who has the equipment to regas. The new type of gas is not detectable with the standard gas equipment.

I've had to take it back to Citroen but wonder if any other owners are aware of this change.

Big debate here with lots of info.You are unlikely to get anyone to re-charge one of these for less than around £200.

I only learnt about the new gas here :

which states a phasing in of vehicles to the new gas from 2013 to a complete changeover in 2017.

With this in mind I find it hard to believe that a/c service engineers aren't equipped with gas for regassing or an approved method of leak detection.

I have thrown it back to Citroen because it is within the 3yr warranty period, unless they try saying it has been 'damaged' somehow.

We can thank our greedy American cousins for this scandalous change. When Duponts patents on R134a ran out and their massive income stream started to dry up (noticed how cheap refills have become?), the US lobbied, bullied and bribed the corrupt EU successfully to change to this new gas despite it being flammable and leaks more than the old gas.

We, the punters, will be screwed in the name of comerce and tax income.
