I have a problem with my VW passat 1.6l petrol engine from 1997

When I am driving, I have something like a stick shaker and then the engine stop. After that, restarting the engine is difficult and once it starts, the engine only gradually accelerates and followed by a complete loss of traction. The power is therefore drastically reduced on acceleration. In addition, if the car is driven in such condition, the fuel consumption dramatically increase. Please note that a while ago, I had removed the thermostat on the engine.

In that case replace it with a new working one and see how you get on.
