Hi all, I hope someone can clear this up for me.

I took my 2013 E350 Coupe for a new back tyre last week and was informed the front wheel alignment was out. I checked with Mercedes as the car is still under warranty and thought I'd be able to pull a fast one......no luck, however after quoting me £230 plus vat I informed them kwik fit quoted a maximum of £130 all in. I was then informed if kwik fit did the work it would invalidate my warranty!!!!

Is this correct? Seems a little unreasonable to be honest.

Thanks
Phil

Never, ever, let Kwikfit touch your car.

I would not want Kwikfix to align the cutlery on my dinner table, let alone the wheels on my car.Go with MB.At least there will be some help if there is a problem.

What makes you think the front wheel alignment is out.....are you sure the original garage who replaced the rear tyre weren't just after some extra work?

Punter goes into Kwikfit for a job and they tell him more jobs need doing - its how they work. How do they know the tracking is out? Did they show you the evidence?

If the car is driving OK, it isn't pulling and the front tyres aren't scrubbing chances are the tracking is OK.

Thanks for the replies. The car is pulling slightly after I was caught out by a pot hole a couple of weeks ago so it may need doing. Also evidence of uneven wear on the front tyres.

What's the problem with kwik fit? Apparently they use some hunters technology. Always thought they were quite reputable??

Go on alignmycar.co.uk and find somewhere near you with a Hunter rig. Just get it done and say nowt to the dealer.

"hunter technology" - what on earth does that mean? Do they use a Hunter rig or just something "similar"?

Some years ago the wifes car went in for a service at the local Ford emporium and they phoned to say it needed 2 new front tyres and the tracking checking. Tracking £75 to check and extra to adjust plus £100 for 2 unknown ditchfinders. The tyres were legal, it had passed its MOT while it was there so told them to leave it.

Next day went to Kwik Fit. They checked the tracking and as indicated by the tyres was out, £25 to adjust it. They suggested I had 2 new tyres since the ones on the car were badly worn on the inside edges so asked for a price. After a little price matching got 2 Pirellis and tracking for £140.

Highly delighted and after 3 more years the tyres did not scrub off so they did a decent job.

And regarding warranty how can having tracking adjusted by a non-Merc garage invalidate it, tracking is not covered under any warranty.

Just get it done.

Last time I went there (years ago) I had to stop the operator from jacking up my car with the jack head under the trackrod.

Some branches may well have fully trained, conscientious staff, but in general they have a reputation (possibly undeserved) for finding extra jobs to lighten the customer's pocket.
