hi all
I have just picked up a 51 plate 205 GLX and on occasions the needles all seem to do a little dance on their own, they all flick up and down to the same beat, and i have noticed if the lights are on, they seem to dim and brighten to the same beat.
Any clues where to look for the problem please?

Are you sure it's a 205 on a 51 plate, as manufacture of these stopped in 1997/98 ?

From the description I'd start looking at the alternator and battery. Lights that go bright and dim and instrument needles (especially fuel and temperature gauges) that go up and down are a good sign of an unstable system voltage.

Check for a poor or broken earth connection on top of the transmission, below the battery. You will need to remove the battery box to see it properly.

This is pretty clearly a 206. Forget about a '205'. None of those ever knew how to make their needles swing about - they either registered or they didn't.
