Only have experience of the Aygo, have delivered Colts but nothing otherwise...i would suggest both automated manual gearboxes are as unfit for purpose as all other automated manuals in cars.

Clutch in aygo is larger from about 2008, yes the discs do wear quite rapidly but our family owned one gets a lot of heavy town use, simple and cheap for home replacement.

Engine was rattly as others i've heard but i've recently put my own fully synthetic oil in and its far quieter now, time will tell.

No electrical issues at all so far, nor to be fair any others, it suffered from serious road noise but i effectively soundproofed it which has made a big difference, and the standard radio and speaker set up was awful, again easy to upgrade to a proper head unit and decent speakers.

Chefslot - inevitably small cars need to be light, and therefore the occupants are more vulnerable. All cars have to pass the NCAP tests, but the star ratings have to take a car's size into account.

The Colt never sold all that well, and you may have trouble finding one. I'm not sure what you have in mind when you say 'smaller', but a Toyota Yaris 1.3, as suggested above, or a Ford Fiesta should be small enough for most people unless your driving is all in a town or city.
