The issue: the speedometer started dropping off and did this occasionally, replaced speed sensor, well actually entire gearbox as sensor was a pig to get out and knackered other bits.

Then it kept doing it, it got worse and started dropping off for minutes and then miles and miles, odometer would then read ------- and engine management light comes on. Had cluster checked and issues sorted, but no issues with speedometer... Problem still exits, checked and cleaned up earth points... Issue still there.

It has the usual issues, stereo fading, and a bit jerky at slower speeds and low revs, has never cut out on me, but has a slight reduction in power, but barely noticeable...

All the usual issues have been explored, even to the point of trying a number of speed sensors, just incase one was faulty....

Help me... This is beyond a joke now, in my 10 mile trip to work, I am normally without a speedo for 5 miles of that... I need a soloution to this problem, as nothing suggested on the forums has fixed it so far!!

Go on, give us a clue! What have you tried so far that hasn't worked?

Have you had the battery condition and charging system checked?

Classic speed sensor fault .Replace with a genuine Ford part.

Already done that with genuine ford parts, not fixed it

Battery good, charging fine, sensor and cluster fine, earthing points and wiring all good... Only thing left that we can think of is the ECU??

Isn't there an issue with the speedometer units fitted to the Ford Focus themselves? I'm sure this has been reported in the past and, at one time, Ford were offering customers who had problems a new unit for £100.

I'm sure a search on the HJ forum will find previous threads on this issue.

Cluster has been checked over by a specialist and sorted out. It has completely died now, however there is no reduction in performance or shuddering at low revs.... Could this be a result of a failure between the ECU and the speedo cluster... A loose wire between the two??
