Much has been said about oil-change intervals and vehicle inspections, but I see no mention of the crankcase breather system.
My 75 with the BMW 2.00l diesel entered Bristol last week followed by a billow of blue smoke and a good smothering of oil in the engine bay. Recovery diagnosed blown turbo seals.
On recovery back to my mechanic in New Forest the problem was swiftly found to be the crankcase breather. A new filter assembly was sourced and fitted in less than one hour.
Apparently it should be changed every 30k.
Worth looking at before scrapping or selling cheaply due to a "blown turbo".
