Seen on Phone while in traffic - Ben Love

Ok, so stupid me.

Left work early yesterday in order to go down the recovery yard and collect items from my car,

Sat in traffic I got my phone out and to put the recovery yard into my sat nav, at this point, I look to the left and see an officer walking over towards my car.

Looking up I see the lights change to Green so just drive on.

The police officer has been to my house today and asked me to come down the station Sunday at 10am for an interview. I assume I should expect 3 points from this? What else should I expect? Can 3 points be given if you are not pulled over?

I know I should not have touched my phone, lesson learnt and I wont do it again, just want to know what I should expect.

You can expect 3 points and a fine.

Try it on and you could well find yourself being prosecuted for failing to have complete control of your vehicle, driving without due care and attention ... the choices are endless.

There again you might get away with just a telling off. The fact you are attending the station freely will go in your favour but its impossible to say what will happen. Just be polite and co operate, and dont give them any of that "I pay your wages" talk or expect them to fall for stupid excuses.

Good advice, best bet is to pass the attitude test if you can, and not to get shirty if he decides he's nicking you anyway, hopefully it will be a telling off and caution.

Must not have much serious crime in your area, would have expected a NIP asking to identify the driver, just so they could send the NIP and give the fine and points.
