That is called running on .Caused by overheating. The spark plugs are acting like Glow plugs in a model glow engine and fring the engine which is knocking it's head off. Cause varies but usually weak mixture wrong plug grade or wrong timing. Check for air leaks in the induction circuit Correct plugs .Timing for both the valves and ignition Just for starters
