I understand (I may be wrong) that having passed the LGV test in an automatic vehicle, one is then also entitled to drive a manual LGV.

The DVLA site states that 'you need to have a full car licence to qualify to learn to drive a bus/lorry'.

I assume this means a full manual car licence? Logically, it ought to, shouldn' it?

You're quite right there Galileo me old equally incredulous mate.

On the HGV test you also no longer perform a controlled emergency stop, nor a gearchanging exercise, and for a long time now its brakes to slow gears to go is the mantra.

The lunatics truly are running the asylum.

GB, agree with you completely; I have read similar views on another forum (like yourself, that poster drove car transporters, is now on tankers, also hates auto truck gearboxes) so there are others with the wisdom of experience still around.

Not True. If you pass a licence category in an automatic vehicle then that category of your licence will have code 78 - restricted to vehicles with automatic transmission on that licence class. At least that the way it should work ! The DVLA staff bless them have been known to make errors and omissions

You are wrong, if you've got a manual car licence and pass a HGV test on an auto you will automatically qualify for a full licence incuding manual lorry entitlement, further dumbing down of actual skills whilst we tick publicity boxes with utterly pointless d*****, ie drivers certificate of competence DCPC.
