Have problem with my Honda Civic 06 2.2 Cdti,

Have had in to local garage who informed me that until it breaks down completely fault will not show on computer.

Problem occurred last year about the same time when temperature dropped below 8 degrees the car become hesitant when accelerating from junctions some times conking out or slow moving as if starved of fuel, the same happens when travelling in slow moving traffic then accelerating to overtake then when you move back into a slow moving flow and go to accelerate it conks out or becomes slow moving.

Checked out V.O.S.A website and found that there was a recall on fuel pump for this model and year but Honda says that my car is not affected by the fault, the car has been serviced EGR cleaned, new fuel filter( not Honda).

So any help on what may be the fault would be appreciated before I book it in to a Honda dealership.

new fuel filter( not Honda).

Get a genuine fuel filter fitted first. That may cure the issue but if it doesn't it eliminates what is a common issue with non OEM parts.

The fault may not show on their computer even if it does break down. That very much depends on what the fault is. Honda do not make fuel filters, so iot doesn't really matter if it's not got their label on it as long as it's the right specification and fitted correctly.

You really need suitable diagnostic equipment to help you. Live data readings will tell you CPS, MAF Turbo boost and fuel rail pressure information. Something is causing your problem, and to be monitoring all this information when the fault occurs is where you need to be.

Fault codes will only be stored if something goes out of range. The ECM may not be capable of recognising a fault even though there may be one. So do not get drawn into the trap that if no fault codes exist it means there are no faults. It doesn't work like that.

Agree but with an Genuine Honda filter you know it will meet the specifications. A pattern part may look the same and will hopefully work the same but with modern fuel injection genuine parts is the best policy for the small additional cost.

"Problem occurred last year about the same time when temperature dropped below 8 degrees the car become hesitant when accelerating from junctions some times conking out or slow moving as if starved of fuel"

Blocked fuel filter, wrong fuel filter of inadequate capacity, blockage in fuel system..

Use a genuine one..elimiate variables.

+1 - non-genuine filters have been known to cause problems on the Civic, should have Honda or Bosch brand on it.

The symptoms sound like air in the fuel supply - check the fuel filter connections - pipes etc.

Do you??? A lot of Japaneses cars have been the subjects of recalls recently for parts made by suppliers to their specification.SQA(supplier quality audit)is what they needed.

Are you sure filter has been replaced?. It's hard to get to and some say it's done when it isn't

Crank position sensor seems to be a regular problem on these, i`ve come across some that are causing problems at different air temps/engine temps

ie when the engine gets too hot as in traffic and you stop engine,go to restart and it turns over but wont fire, doing a live diagnostics proved the crank position sensor was not giving a signal, which meant you had no injection

bearing in mind it also suffered the same problem as you also turned out to be CPS as intermitent fault but the fault did not register long enough to be recorded by ECU, I think fault code has to stay for 20,seconds to register on ECU

So it would be worth, and possibly the only way to find this fault, by doing a live diagnostics you can get a bluetooth one that links to your mobile, for about £6 and software from google play store its very good software
