My car is 4 yrs old, low mileage, never had a problem. Went in for an MOT, came out with two warning lights (the brakes and EPC). Taken it to two specialist garages who read a faulty code yet have no idea how to fix it, apparently the car seems fine. One has just replaced the accelerator pedal (thinking it's the electrics inside that) but within 20 mins the problem came back. The car feels weak. The garage that did the MOT won't take responsibility also. I can't afford to replace parts on a trial and error basis. I need a Colombo of the VW car world to help me out here!!

Do you have any details of what fault codes have been logged? Not too sure why the acc pedal has been replaced.?

Had this happen on my Octavia,

You will probably find you brake light switch has stopped working (probably during the MOT brake test). Have somebody stand behind the car whilst you push on brake pedal

This is a very common fault on some VAG cars and will cause havoc with the EPC and affect the engines running

Get the switch changed - cheap job!

You need someone with VCDS to help you. Brake lamp switches have two sets of contacts. One for the brake lamps, and one for the ECM, so even if the brake lamps work it doesn't necessarily mean the switch is fully functional. VCDS will tell you if the switch is working or not. If the brake lamps are not working and the switch is the cause then it's likely that is your problem.
