The turbo on my 2014 Nissan Qashqai has failed - do you think Nissan will contribute to repair costs?

I have a 2014 Nissan Qashqai 1.5 DCi, which I have leased from new, driven sympathetically and had serviced at the correct intervals (the last service being in October 2017). The car has been very reliable, right up to the recent sudden failure of the engine turbocharger at 57,000 miles and unfortunately, two months out of the manufacturer warranty period. The independent garage I have used for repairs (at a cost of over £1100) have told me that mine is not the only second-generation Qashqai with the K9K engine that they have seen with this problem. Are you aware of any turbocharger issues at this age or mileage on this engine? Also, do you think it is worth approaching Nissan for a goodwill contribution towards the cost of repairs?

Engine replaced under warranty.

In your case it's likely to be due to oil starvation to the turbo bearing because the turbo bearing oil feed and oil return pipes are partially blocked with carbon due to shutting off the engine when the turbo was too hot. Should idle for a minute or two after constant speed running on the motorway, after a long ascent or after towing. You now need to replace the turbo bearing oil feed and oil return pipes or it will happen again. Worth trying Nissan (always worth trying) but they rarely contribute to an independent repair.
