Volvo V50 or Volkswagen Passat?

I used to own a 2002 1.9 TDi 140 Volkswagen Passat Estate and loved it. I've already sold the car and am looking at purchasing a newer estate. I have heard there have been some issues with the 05-onwards Passat. I am also unsure which model to look at (I'm seeking leather interior, very good MPG, not a sluggish engine, cruise control and hopefully satellite navigation, and bluetooth). I have a budget of £15,000.

I've since looked at Volvos but I can't seem to find any V70s in my price bracket with average mileage so I've looked at the Volvo V50. I don't know anything about these and wonder how they compare to the Passat? I see they are smaller in terms of storage capacity, which does put me off a bit. Any info available on Passat vs Volvo V50? Or on which 05-onwards Passat Estate is best for MPG/insurance/tax band/kit?

There were a lot of "issues" with the 05 Passat. Here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/volkswagen/passat-20...d
