I want to buy an estate car with good carrying capacity - is the Volkswagen Passat estate suitable?
The lease on my company car comes to an end in November and, due to the poor choice on offer, I am coming out of the lease option and taking a cash allowance with which I intend to buy a car. I have a budget of maximum £9000 and do approximately 10,000 business miles and 5000 personal miles a year. I would like to get an estate car with decent load carrying capacity for camping holidays etc and was thinking of a diesel Volkswagen Passat estate. Is this a good choice? If so, can you advise on the various trim options available, as I would like some "toys" and luxury if possible.

Bad choice. Not good to drive, not particularly reliable. See car-by-car breakdown.

Spacious and comfortable. Wide range of engines. Big, boot with lockable seatbacks. Generally better from May 2008 onwards.
