Why does my Lexus IS 220d hesitate when accelerating?

I drive a 2007 Lexus IS 220d which has covered 17,655 miles. It seems hesitant when I first drive off in first gear, and then the power comes in which makes for a jerky drive. This happens in the other gears too. If I go to accelerate in any gear there's an hesitation for a couple of seconds, then you feel the engine respond. I am taking my car for it's third service shortly, so is there anything I should tell the Lexus dealer? I did mention this to the dealer some time ago and the technician told me its a characteristic of this engine, and I should use Shell or BP's premium diesel - which I did, and didn't make any difference. What can I do?

There is some turbo lag with this engine. Nothing much at all at low revs, then the torque all comes in at once very strongly at about 1700rpm. That might be what you are feeling.
