My BMW 330d's engine broke up due to a known problem - will BMW contribute to repairing it?
I own a BMW 330d 2003 and the engine broke up, doing so much damage that I had to have a replacement remanufactured engine. I bought the car from a BMW garage and I understand that this is a known weakness in the 330d engine up to 2003 and that in 2004 they modified the manifold design for production. Should BMW not have notified myself and other owners of the possible problems and the modification to that engine? Could I expect any help from the BMW garage I bought the car from?

Yes, the inlet manifold swirl flaps can break off and get ingested by the engine. It's warned of in the car-by-car breakdown.
