Is a dealer legally compelled to provide spare parts quickly? My Citroen C4 Picasso has been waiting for six weeks.

My Citroen C4 Picasso broke down six weeks ago and I had to leave it at an approved Citroen dealer and return to Edinburgh by train. It is out of warranty by six months. Citroen are still unable to give me a date for a replacement part, far less fix it. In the meantime they will not give me a courtesy car as my car is out of warranty and also as a result of the franchise system, with me being in Scotland now. In theory I can understand both these issues, but wonder if there is a legal obligation for a manufacturer to be able to provide a replacement part within a reasonable timeframe for a car which is only just out of warranty?

No legal compulsion, no. There probably should be. But I would take a proactive stance, find out exactly what part is needed and start searching for it myself rather than leave a dealer to source it from Citroen central supplies.
