Is a blown fuse causing my Ford Mondeo's air conditioning to malfunction?

I have a Ford Mondeo Ghia 2001. The air conditioning was working, then started to blow warm, so I got it re-gassed. Then it blew cold for a couple of days, and then warm again. There used to be a sound as if a fan was kicking in every few minutes, but there is no sound whatsoever now. Could it be a fuse gone or something more expensive?

My 51-plate Ford Mondeo's air conditioning seems to be on all the time. Can I disarm it from the engine? It seems to be using a lot of diesel.
