Which large saloon car would you recommend for motorway use and towing a caravan?

I have owned a 2001 BMW 530d SE (E39) from new and have covered approximately 11,000 miles per year, 75 per cent of which has been on motorways. Though I am very happy with it, I feel ready for a change from BMW. From time to time I need to carry my grandchildren and their 'stuff' in and around Edinburgh, Blackpool and Bristol. I also tow a small caravan. I do not want an estate. Which used saloons would you recommend for a maximum of £20,000? I believe a used Jaguar XF still to be over my budget?

XFs are down to about £20,000 at auction. But maybe, for towing, an Audi A6 3.0V6 quattro.
