Need a nearly new car with lots of boot space for £16k
I am looking to buy a nearly new car; ideally an SUV, which I intend to keep for 10 years. My current car is a 2005 Volkswagen Passat diesel. I need plenty of boot space and a bit of punch when it comes to performance. My budget is up to £16k and I would be grateful for any suggestions you may have. I do 6000 miles a year and am unsure if I should go for a petrol or diesel.

Unless you will be doing 20,000 miles a year, maintenance and repair costs on an already 2nd hand diesel are likely to greatly outweigh any savings on fuel. The cheapest new petrol SUV that works well is the Dacia Sandero 1.2TCe 125 at £13k for 2WD and £15k for 4WD (+£450 for satnav): www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/dacia/dacia-duster.../
