Santa Fe is rusting away - do I have any recourse with Hyundai?

I have just MoT'd my 60 plate Hyundai Santa Fe with 45k on the clock. I have been told that the engine sub frame is badly corroded and needs replacing at a cost of £1700. The mechanic said this should of not happened and not enough protection was applied during the manufacture of said part. I've spoken to Hyundai, but they said no such cases have been reported and its under general wear and tear. What are my rights?

It's the first we have heard of this. If it occurred within six years of purchase you may have a case under Sale of Goods: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/ It may also be worth taking up with DVSA Vehicle Standards because it there are other cases a vehicle safety recall could be issued. Do you operate the vehicle in particularly harsh winter conditions where the roads are heavily salted? Or do you use it for launching boats into the sea?
