Which comfortable, economical German car can I buy for £11,000?

As much as I love the comfort of the 520i BMW, it has a thirst greater than Dean Martin! I have decided, therefore that it has to go. I drive about 11,000 miles a year, a combination of town and motorway trips. I would welcome your advice on secondhand options of up to £11,000. I am six feet tall and need comfortable seats. I've driven Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and SAAB over the last 20 years and I like well-made cars. What I really want is a fast, comfortable, economical German car for about £11,000. Do you have any suggestions?

Mondeo 2.0TDCI. Excellent, high quality cars with the fewest problems compared to BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Skoda, Mercedes-Benz, etc.
