Buying a new car - is paint protection worth the extra money?

I have ordered a new Mercedes-Benz GLC. I have been offered StarGard treatment for the paint and leather upholstery by the dealer for £398. Is it worth it?

It's a salesman's commission earner, but all paint these days needs additional protection so I wouldn't begrudge it on a £40,000 car.
