New car up to £50k - quiet, smooth ride, automatic, preferably 4wd
Looked at your list of quiet cars. Not entirely happy with some of the models - the Skoda Superb tyres are noisy on coarse grained road, ride in BMWs is too harsh (and I want a spare tyre), DSG box in VW products is unreliable, some engines (eg Ingenium in Disco Sport) are too noisy. I was really impressed by latest E class - engine virtually silent, but they don't do ventilated seats (!). I want something that improves on my top of the range 5 year old XC70 with laminated windows. Sure it has a noisy engine under acceleration, and the suspension is poor, but ti handles potholes well, the seats are very comfortable and they are ventilated. Can you suggest something as quiet as E class, similar ride, but with vent seats and auto, under £50k? Thanks for your help.

Mercedes new 2.0 litre diesel engine is all new and so far the new E Class is the only car to get it. We don't databank cars with the option of ventilated seats. Ride comfort depends partly on suspension and partly on the type and profile of the tyres fitted to the car. The new Jaguar F-Pace is very good, but the 3.0 diesel swallows all of your money and comes on 20-inch wheels with 50 profile tyres, but lesser specs come on 19-inch wheels with more acceptable 55 profile tyres or 18-inch wheels with 60 profile tyres: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/jaguar/jaguar-f-pa.../?
