Buying a medium SUV - recomendations?

I am replacing a 10 year old Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2 CDX and am looking at the Tucson SE Nav 1.7 Diesel. I won't be doing more than 8000 miles per year. Is this the best choice? I want a car with a good high driving position and have a budget up to £23K.

This should also be available with the 1.6 T-GDI engine. That and AWD transform the KIA Sportage, so should do the same for the Tucson. The 1.7 is a nice natured, ambling kind of diesel with max torque from low rpm, but inevitably, long-term, will start to suffer from diesel ailments such as choked EGR, blocked DPF, etc.
