The air conditioning in my Volkswagen Touran is playing up - what's wrong with it?

I have been using the air conditioning on my 2006 Volkswagen Touran. When you switch it on it blows cold. Then, after a period of an hour or so, the blower can still be heard but the volume of air coming through the vents is very limited. Then, if you turn it all off for a while or stop, it works fine again for a while. All the flaps seem to work fine. I also noticed quite a lot of water under the car when I stopped after an hour and a half with the a/c full on. Is this normal?

When you say the volume of air is limited, are you saying that the fan is not blowing the same quantity of air as it did at the start, or are you saying that the air temp is not the same? I cannot see that the air blower would change speed or decrease in operation, but could see that the air temperature could change, which might indicate that it needs recharging. As for the pool of water under the car once stopped, this is ok, and is normal for vehicles fitted with A/C.

I had my air-conditioning regased but when I went to put it on again the next summer it wasn't working and the same garage said it needed regassing again. They also said I should keep my air-conditioning...
Is it true that you should have your recirculation button on all the time in summer when you are running the air conditioning?
How often should the aircon be serviced on my car?
