Buying a new C-Class - petrol or diesel?

I am thinking of buying a Mercedes-Benz C-Class, but cannot decide between the C200 petrol or diesel. I will do less than 8000 miles per year, which engine would you recommend?

The C200CDI has a very good, latest tech 1.6 litre Renault diesel engine that has been fitted to various Renault models since 2011 and seems to be a paragon of reliability. It's just a bit noisy, and, because it's a comparatively tall exhaust manifold in head engine, there is no room for a sound damper between the top of the engine and the bonnet.
