A3 Cabriolet or BMW 2 Series Convertible - what would you recommend?

Hoping to buy nearly new Audi A3 Cabriolet or BMW 2 Series, up to 6000 miles. Always had manual cars before, but leaning towards automatic, now sure on which engine size and fuel type. Seem to be more A3 1.6 diesels available in dealers, but not many automatics. Is there a particular reason for this? Only planning to keep it for a couple of years. What spec would be good on resale?

The sweet spot in the current shape A3 convertible is the 1.4 TSI 140/150 ACT from 2014. Probably a Sport. No point in spending more because a faster one will blow your hair off. But must be manual. You won't catch me recommending a DSG. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/audi/audi-a3-cabri.../
