Buying a one year old car
I am buying an 11 month old Meriva 1 4 Techline with 6k miles on the clock. Delivery in about a week. (It is ex mobility with no modifications the sales guy says). He is pushing me to sign up for Diamondglaze/Diamondbright? And scotch guard. So far I have said no because I dont usually do add-ons in case they are just profit making extras. I can see that there has been a recommendation on the site that it is not something I could do myself in the winter. (I do usually polish the car myself using a good polish). Please would you let me have your view? Is this a reasonable thing to buy or not?

Scotchguard is excellent for protecting upholstery. I Scotchguarded a Fiat nearly 8 years ago and the seats still look like new. But I did that myself. I only needed the spraycan of Scotchguard. As you point out, waxing a car (not polishing) in the winter is easier said than done because the wax hardens in low temperatures and doesn't like moisture in the air. So some sort of coating probably makes sense, as long as it doesn't set you back more than £200 and doesn't need repeat applications.
