Need a used family car for a growing family - what do you recommend?

My son and his wife are shortly to have twins. So, they need an appropriate sized reliable economic car for the family, plus double buggy. Annual mileage is probably 10,000 miles and their budget is £5000-£7000. What do you recommend?

Some kind of MPV. A Ford C-Max would do the job. Similarly a Renault Scenic, Vauxhall Zafira, Vauxhall Meriva, VW Touran, Mazda 5, Renault Grand Modus, preferably with a petrol rather than a diesel engine and definitely not a diesel with a diesel particulate filter.
