How can I set my Ford Galaxy's air conditioning to provide a lower temperature?

On my 2004 Ford Galaxy's air conditioning setting 'AUTO', the lowest ambient temp (ambient) is 18 degrees Centigrade. Is there a way of lowering the temp settings?

A specialist might be able to do it, but keeping a Galaxy below 18C will be hard work for the a/c and it will cost you in fuel as well as compressor life.

Is it true that you should have your recirculation button on all the time in summer when you are running the air conditioning?
How often should the aircon be serviced on my car?
