Is there a way of bypassing my Ford Escort's air conditioning resistor?

I've just had my 1999 Ford Escort's air conditioning serviced and the next day my blower motor stopped. It has only been working on a low setting for some time, so I am thinking the resistor has gone. Is there any way I can bypass the resistor with a live feed from somewhere to check the motor is still working before I change the resistor?

I'm not sure if the service to the air conditioning and the motor stopping are related. Do you have a workshop manual? This would give you much more info. Failing that, you should not bypass the resistor as that may result in you causing serious damage to the motor.
