Volkswagen Group diesel emission fixing - is the company open to all sorts of complaints?

I have been following the news on Volkswagen and there is a lot of talk about fixing the engines and etc. I have been very surprised though that no one has raised the issue that cars might have been bought under false pretences given that some people buy their cars based on environmental concerns and their emissions. If these have been being manipulated then surely VW group are open to all sorts of complaints. Why would they not have to swap cars or refund what has been paid?

In theory you're right. But in practice, bankrupting VWG, putting 650,000 people out of work and bringing the whole of Europe to its knees is not very practical.
